Pysanky

I really enjoy the art of creating Pysanky eggs.  I started creating the eggs about 15 years ago with some very basic supplies.  I used a pencil with a  sewing needle stuck in the eraser.  Then not long after, I purchased my first computer and found suppliers for the more modern tools:  Kistka, Ritilan dyes, blas fix, bees wax, etc.

I go in spurts in creating the eggs.  I really love the entire process, to take a plain white egg and draw on it with wax.  The dying of the eggs, and then the melting off the wax to see how the colors and designs work together.

Traditional Pysanky eggs have various designs that are used.  However, in the eggs that I create, I use the designs that I am feeling at the moment.  I like how I am free to draw in wax what I want and how I want and not be bound by a set of rules or traditions.  Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy looking at others works and designs, borrowing some that really strike me.  But for the most part, I just go with the flow.  I guess it is a part of me that likes being in control.

My designs are simple, and not as complicated as other Pysanky eggs.  I am slowly graduating to more complicated designs.  It is just a matter of me letting go of my own insecurities and feeling comfortable with drawing smaller and more detailed designs.

With that said, I am very proud of my work.  It is simplistic, but it is a part of me.  And with that, I am happy to share something that I enjoy and is a part of my life.
